Ingredients

Scale

To make the perfect crunchy fried shrimp, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1 pound of large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of water
  • 2 cups of panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Lemon wedges, for serving
  • Tartar sauce or your preferred dipping sauce

Instructions

Follow these simple steps to create your own batch of crunchy fried shrimp:

  1. Prepare the Shrimp:
    • Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
    • Season the shrimp with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Toss them gently to ensure they are evenly coated.
  2. Set Up Your Breading Station:
    • Place the flour in a shallow dish.
    • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and water until well combined.
    • Spread the panko breadcrumbs in another shallow dish.
  3. Bread the Shrimp:
    • Dredge each shrimp in the flour, shaking off any excess.
    • Dip the floured shrimp into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated.
    • Roll the shrimp in the panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere the breadcrumbs to the shrimp.
  4. Heat the Oil:
    • Pour vegetable oil into a large skillet or deep fryer, filling it to about 2 inches deep.
    • Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.
  5. Fry the Shrimp:
    • Carefully add the shrimp to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
    • Fry each batch for about 2-3 minutes, or until the shrimp turn golden brown and crispy.
    • Remove the shrimp from the oil using a slotted spoon and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels.
  6. Serve:
    • Arrange the fried shrimp on a serving platter.
    • Garnish with lemon wedges and serve with tartar sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
