Marinade

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cooking wine (or water)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Sauce

  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp cooking wine (or water)
  • 2 tsp dark soy sauce (or extra soy sauce)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp salt

Stir Fry

  • 2 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 white onion, chopped
  • 2 bell peppers, chopped

Instructions

Follow these steps to prepare a delightful Black Pepper Chicken:

  1. Marinate the Chicken
    • In a bowl, mix the chicken with soy sauce, cooking wine, and cornstarch.
    • Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes to soak up the flavors.
  2. Prepare the Sauce
    • In another bowl, combine the sauce ingredients: chicken broth, soy sauce, cooking wine, dark soy sauce, cornstarch, sugar, black pepper, and salt. Mix well until the cornstarch is dissolved.
  3. Cook the Chicken
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add the marinated chicken in a single layer. Cook for 30 seconds, then flip and cook for another 15-20 seconds until lightly browned.
    • Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Stir Fry the Vegetables
    • Add another tablespoon of oil to the skillet.
    • Stir in minced ginger and garlic until fragrant.
    • Add chopped onion and bell peppers. Cook for approximately 20 seconds.
  5. Combine Everything
    • Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet, stirring continuously until it thickens.
    • Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and mix well to coat the chicken with the sauce.
  6. Serve
    • Serve the Black Pepper Chicken hot on a plate and enjoy the tantalizing flavors.
